ABOUT THE JUDGES

Andrzej Szutkiewicz, Poland

It all started with Great Danes.
My passion and cynological activity began in 1980, when I bought the first blue
female Great Dane and joined the Polish Kennel Club.
For over 40 years I bred 7 generations of blue and black Great Dane with my own kennel name AMIGO PERRO (FCI) icluding many Champions in Poland and other European countries. I bred a Yorkshire Terrier for a short time, and for 8 years I have been breeding Boston Terrier with show successes.
Some cynologists may also associate me with sled dogs, especially with Samoyeds. And rightly so, because for 11 years I have been supporting my wife's breeding, SONATA ARCTICA (FCI), with knowledge and experience.
In my cynological career I am a member of the Polish Kennel Club and I was vice president for 20 years of the Molossoid Breeds Club in Poland.
I am an honorary member of the Polish Kennel Club.
I am currently the president of the Bialystok branch ZKwP for 20 years and the president of the Rottweiler Club in Poland for several years.
I have been a judge since 1999. I judge breeds from all FCI groups. So far, I have judged in 27 countries including Europe, Asia and Africa, at different National and International Dog Shows , Euro Dog Shows, World Dog Show, EUDDC – great danes, Club Dog Shows, Monographic Dog Shows and many more.

FCI judge since 1999, permissions for judge:
judge - international - Group 1 FCI – all breeds
judge - international - Group 2 FCI - all breeds
judge - international - Group 3 FCI - all breeds
judge - international - Group 4 FCI - all breeds
judge - international - Group 5 FCI - all breeds
judge - international - Group 6 FCI – all breeds
judge - international - Group 7 FCI - all breeds
judge - international - Group 8 FCI - all breeds
judge - international - Group 9 FCI - Boston Terrier, French Bulldog, Pug
judge - international - Group 10 FCI - all breeds
judge - international - FCI not recognized breeds
judge - international – Eu.D.D.C. - Great Dane
judge - international - Best in Show

Judged in many countries: Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Hungary, Irland, Island, Kazakstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraina.

Beata Petkevich, Latvia

In cynology since 1986, when she acquired her first dog - Rough Collie.
In 1996 they were joined by the first Pembroke Welsh Corgi in Latvia.
The Doberman breed has been a dream since childhood, which, for various reasons, did not come true. The Doberman for her is of the most beautiful breeds, a symbiosis of elegance and expression.
At the moment has at home 2 deeply loved rough collies – male and his very young daughter.
Since 1992 – Judge of the Latvian Cynological Federation. For several years she lectured on the exterior for future cynologists and dog show judges, was a member of the judging bureau till 2022.
She had the honor to judge in many countries different types of show – specialties, club shows, national shows, international shows, also had a hounour to be a judge of EDShows (Slovenia, Ukraine).
In any representative of the breed, first of all, looking for the overall harmony and essence of the breed. In the perception of the judge, the representative of the breed should ideally be the sound through which the notes sound - the breed standard.
The main activity outside cynology is related to Human Recurce management.

Bo Skalin, Sweden

Since 1977 Bo Skalin has owned the Giant Schnauzers and since 1984 also the Miniature Schnauzers. On the beginning he was mainly interested and involved in the working trials and shows, but in 1985 the first litter has born under prefix Hassan Hill's and during 20 years there were bred over 50 Champions Giant and Miniature Schnauzers, gained over 100 titles around the world. For the successful breeding the kennel was awarded by the special plaque from the Swedish Schnauzer-Pinscher Club and by the Hamilton plaque from the Swedish Kennel Club (SKK). Today together with his wife he is breeding Miniature Schnauzers, Rough Collies, Shetland Sheepdogs and Chihuahua under Skabona prefix. In 1995 Bo got his judge's license and was specialized on Schnauzers and Pinschers. Over the years of education and judging he finally was confirmed as the All-Breeds judge in 2011 when living in Finland. He has been judging on the all continents at all level of shows including the European and World Dog shows. He is the member of the board of the Swedish Kennel Club, the President of the SKK Judges Committee and the President of Swedish Schnauzer-Pinscher Club.

David R. Miller, United States of America

Mr. David R. Miller (aka Jean-David Laplanche) has been a dog enthusiast all his life. From an early age, his parents raised various terriers. In the early Seventies while residing in France, he fixed his sights upon the dogs that he has raised for over forty years, Salukis. Under the prefix of Shandell, and coupled with the French Saluki kennel, Arab Bahari, he still occasionally breeds and shows. In addition, he has owned Afghans, Dalmatians and Italian Greyhounds.
In the Mid-Seventies and throughout the Eighties, Mr. Miller showed not only his Salukis, but dogs in several breeds for clients. In 1988, he applied to the American Kennel Club and was approved to judge Salukis. Since then, he has been approved to judge the American Kennel Club Sporting Group, Hound Group, Toy Group, Non Sporting Group, Fourteen Terriers, Five Herding and Three Working breeds. He has held many offices in the Grand River Kennel Club, currently Vice President, and is the show chairperson for their cluster weekend – The Regatta Classic. Moreover, he is the Vice President of the Cuyahoga Valley Hound Association and the founder of the Regatta Classic Dog Shows in Ohio.
Mr. Miller has officiated in the capacity of judge in thirty-three countries on six continents. He is published in both English and French in professional educational periodicals as well as dog publications. Moreover, he has given seminars internationally on the Afghan, Azawakh, Saluki, Whippet, Solving the Mysteries of Breed Type, Back to Basics, and Judging Procedure. He travels frequently to North Africa due to his association with sighthounds and conducts tours of Marrakech, Morocco and its surroundings. As an avid traveler, he has visited many kennels around the world.
Professionally, Mr. Miller, retired, was the Department Coordinator of World Languages for a school system in the Cleveland, Ohio Metropolitan Area. He has also instructed on the university undergraduate and graduate levels. He holds a Masters Degree in Education with a specialization in French as well as a Certificat Du Premier Degré from the Université De Strasbourg, France. He is a translator and has conferred on projects for officials at the United Nations in relation to indigenous canine breeds of the Sahara.
In his spare time, he is a photographer and his work has been published internationally. Mr. Miller speaks French, German, Italian and English.

Davor Javor, Croatia

I’ve been interested in dogs since I was a kid, I just love dogs. My first dog was an American Cocker bitch, Champion and my first BIS winner. We’ve had Champion Afghan Hounds and English Cockers as well. Today we only have Old English Sheepdogs under the kennel name Reata. The OES’s that we bred have won their championships all over the World, including World, European, English, American, Australian championships and champions in almost every European country!
We have BIS winners in Europe, South and North America, RBIS at European Dog Show, Group Winners both at the World and European Shows, WD and two times AOM at the American National, two times BIS at the Euro-OES Show, BOB at Crufts etc. Our last big result was with an OES from our breeding who won Group 2nd at the World Dog Show 2021. We achieved all that never having more than five adults at home.
I’ve been judging dogs for almost 35 years, and I am approved by the Croatian KC and FCI as an all-round judge. I have judged so far in Argentina, Austria, Australia, Bosnia and |Herzegovina, Canada, China, Croatia, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Honduras, Holland, Hungary, Italy, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Mauritius, Mexico, Norway, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine, USA and Yugoslavia. In 2019 I’ve judged BIS on 6 continents including BIS at Sydney Royal.
I am very proud that I am first Croatian judge who gave CC’s in UK.
In 2014 I received an Award for lifetime achievement in breeding from Croatian KC.
Author of many articles about dogs in different magazines, I have given lectures about dogs to different audiences, from beginners to judge’s organizations.
I am married, have 2 wonderful kids, have Master’s degree in computer sciences, and still breeding OES.

Dinky S. Santos, Philippines

More familiarly known as “Dinky” amongst his peers, he was born in 1967 to a family of “Animal Lovers”.
Dinky has been showing dogs for as long as he can remember. At an early age, he and his siblings would often accompany their Father to the dog shows. Together with his Father and siblings, through the years, he was involved with German Shepherd Dogs, German Shorthaired Pointers, Japanese Akitas, and Bull Terriers before personally getting engrossed with Labrador Retrievers in 1988.

Kaisa Metteri-Gold, Finland

It is a great pleasure to join the judging panel at Istra show 2023.

Terriers have been part of almost my whole life. We got our first Staffordshire Bull Terrier in the family in the early -70's. As a very rare breed in Finland by then, my father promised to show him a couple of times and that is where I got my first touch with dog shows. When I wanted to have my own dog, the choice was very clear, it had to be a Stafford and that is what I got.
In mid -80's I was introduced to American Staffords. I helped a breeder to keep her new import until she gave birth and totally felt in love with this well trained Amstaff female. As I was more into training and obedience, I picked myself a puppy out of this litter.
My first Amstaff was a great working dog but also a good show dog and through him I got more involved into showing. I also had the opportunity to show a lot of different breeds during the years, specially Irish Water Spaniels and Griffons.

I have been been very active in the breed clubs and was for years the President and board member of the Finnish Staffordsire Bull Terrier club, the Amstaff club and for the moment I am a board member of the Finnish Toy Dog Club and the Finnish Judges association.

With the Amstaffs I always had a smaller breed. First Jack Russel Terriers that I also bred a few litters of, then a Smooth Fox Terrier and later Boston Terriers.

I met my first Little Lion Dog almost 30 years ago, but it took me 15 years to convince my husband that we absolutely needed one, or two or three and a few litters... Luckily today I can enjoy different breeds by judging them and I don't have to have own them all.

I am still breeding and showing some, but these days the judging fills
my weekends pretty well.
For now I am judging dogs from groups 2,3,4,9 and 10 and 2/3 from group 5. I have had the pleasure to judge around the world and really look forward to Istra, as this will be my first judging assignment in Slovenia.

Katarzyna Szutkiewicz, Poland
